ONLINE WORKSHOP: Emotional painting – Background Art Workshop with Nicolas Saltos.

Day 1

Introduction. Who I am and my artistic journey so far.
What does being a visual development artist means vs what does being a background artist means.
What do I mean by “emotional painting” (Conveying mood and atmosphere).
What the goal of this workshop is. (Paint a room layout while learning my painting technique/workflow).
Introduction to the layout we will be painting, composition, idea, sketch. Then we will do some tonal rough variations to get the idea and mood.
Day 2
Demo and explanation on how I approach painting light, using layer modes, what brushes, colors, and how to apply textures.
Moving on to the layout, we will start color blocking, then applying shadows, light and defining colors. I will show how to change them easily for explorations.
How to lead the eye with light, shadows and color choices, plus, defining the mood of the scene.
Questions.
Day 3
Rendering the rest of the layout. What brushes I use, how do I use them. How to define the contrast and values to make it pop.
How to use color balance and curve layers. (We won’t get to render the whole thing entirely, but we will learn how to do so, and most importantly, how to use
this workflow to paint anything).
Questions and goodbye.
Recommended materials
PC/Laptop and drawing tablet.
Photoshop will be necessary. Workflow could be applied to other programs as well, but I will only be using photoshop as it is the industry standard.

*Frequent questions:

What happens if I can’t see the classes live one day?

• No problem. All classes are live but will also be recorded and posted on our platform. So you can see them whenever you want throughout the duration of the course. This means that if you cannot attend your class live at the stipulated time, you will be able to see them on the platform until the end of the course. These video-classes, 1080p, posted on the platform can be viewed unlimitedly during the duration of the course but cannot be copied or downloaded. Class recorded can also be viewed for 6 months  once the course is over.

When can I see the classes I did not attend live?

• Access to the virtual platform where you can consult all the information or documentation of the course, access all the classes that have already been taught or the proposed exercises.
