DURATION: 18 hours.

ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOP with Jordi Lafebre.

In this course, a simulation of a professional illustration assignment will be made, reviewing all the
necessary steps, from the proposal of the assignment to the final presentation to the client. The objective
of the course is to internalize and improve concepts, theory, professional methodology seen from the
point of view of the speaker, so that each student can adapt it to their own style and field
professional.
Jordi and the students will work on the same assignment in parallel so that Jordi can teach his
process and students can ask you questions about the points discussed;
In each section of the course, theoretical notions and a practical demonstration will be given.
Itinerary:
Friday 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Presentation. Basic notions of creativity and creative thinking applied to illustration and
drawing. Commission proposal – workshop. Work the idea; final meaning and practical application.

Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Documentation. Visual file sources and how to use them in an optimized way. Construction
of the drawing. Expressiveness of the characters and composition of the image. Choice of technique.
Review of materials and technology.

Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Color application. Final presentation. Open question time and optional review of
student portfolios. Farewell.

Glossary:
1-Presentation.
Jordi will briefly review his more than 20 years of experience as a professional, in which he has
worked in various fields related to illustration and drawing and will try to explain
briefly the characteristics of each professional field.
Each student will introduce themselves to the rest of the group.
2- Basic notions of creativity and creative thinking applied to illustration and
drawing.
Work on an idea from its base and concept, and the way to present it to the viewer in a clear and
quick read.
3-Custom proposal – workshop.
A simulation commissioned by the students will be launched through which the steps will be reviewed
for a professional illustration, taking into account the client’s requests and needs
order techniques.

4- Work the idea; final meaning and practical application.
Development of various sketches and alternative ideas. Small color sketches to present to the client
if required.
5-Documentation. Visual file sources and how to use them in an optimized way.
Search for information and graphic documentation, how to use it properly.
6- Construction of the drawing. Expressiveness of the characters and composition of the image.
Brief review of body language and compositional elements that can help the reading of the
image.
7- Choice of technique. Review of materials and technology.
Review of Paper types, digital techniques, analog paintings, and other possible finishes, always
looking for the most suitable for the specific assignment.
8- Color application. Concepts for a color appropriate to the emotional tone of the image and
techniques to be able to apply it with agility.
Shades of color and application and use of the chromatic tone. Lights work. review of
tools for use and retouching of the chromatic tonality.
9 Final presentation.
Brief review of the delivery format for the client and the moment of applause.
10- Open question time and optional review of student portfolios.
Farewell and more applause.

Recommended materials

Laptop and tablet with Photoshop, Procreate or similar. If you prefer the traditional material with which you usually work.

Brief Bio of Jordi:

Jordi (Barcelona, 1979) has more than 20 years of experience in the field of drawing and
illustration, in which he has worked in various fields, such as graphic novels, illustration
editorial and design for animation. His books are published in more than ten languages and he has been awarded several international prizes.
