ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOP with Julia Sardá.
On the first day Julia will make an introduction, a presentation of herself and an explanation of how she started working, what her doubts were, her first obstacles and crises, how she has been solving them throughout her career. She will also talk about her professional experience: dealing with publishers, creative processes and what it is like to develop a project with editors / art directors, ego struggles, knowing when to compromise and when not to. We will also link with the most logistical part of contracts, agents, promotion and visibility.
We will go on to talk about how to approach a story properly. What processes does Julia follow from the moment she receives a manuscript until she sends the final artwork. The part Julia is interested in is the preliminary reflection, the part where she begins to outline a particular imaginary for the story, how she builds a solid foundation to back it up, and how she begins to outline from then on.
Next, Julia will carry out a demonstration based on texts that serve as support for our work and she will begin by making a small illustration with one of them. Texts that will probably be by Roald Dahl or Gianni Rodari. This part will serve to make a technical explanation. Julia normally uses photoshop.
The technical explanation will be a digital work in which you will be able to appreciate fundamental elements in the creative process such as the execution part, such as composition, color palette, etc.
On Saturday morning, the demonstration begun the previous day will end and each participant will begin to work with its texts. Sketching, defining and working on her illustrations. In this sense, Julia will do a personal supervision and this will occupy us all Saturday and part of Sunday.
Likewise, the final part of Sunday will be dedicated to reviewing the portfolios of those participants who want to review their portfolios, this part always ends up being interesting and goes a long way.
