Day 1: Character Design Fundamentals
Morning Session (3 Hours):

Demonstration: Laying down the initial composition of the illustration.

Blocking out the environment: Integrating characters with their surroundings.

Interactive: Students block in their illustrations alongside the demo.

Roughing out the Specifics

Focusing on character personality, proportion, expressions, and interaction.

Fleshing out the environment: using research to get extremely specific with location and tone of the piece.

Interactive: Students block in their illustrations alongside the demo.

Refining and settling on the composition, characters, and environment to move forward into cleanup.

Demonstration: Tying down the linework of characters and environment.

Interactive Session: Students refine their illustrations with live feedback.

Day 3: Coloring, Lighting, and Final Polish
Morning Session (3 Hours):

Color Theory and Application

Introduction to color theory and its application in illustration.

Finding the “color identity” of the illustration, and how it serves the storytelling.

Demonstration: Applying flat colors and separating elements for easier editing.

Interactive: Students start applying flat colors to their illustrations.

Adding Depth with Lighting

Techniques for adding lighting, shadows, and highlights to bring characters to life and create a mood that serves the storytelling.

Demonstration: Applying lighting to create mood and depth.

Interactive: Students begin adding lighting to their illustrations.

Final Touches and Polish

Color correction and final adjustment, adding the “bells and whistles”, and final polish.

Demonstration: Bringing all elements together for a cohesive final illustration.

What happens if I can’t see the classes live one day?
• No problem. All classes are live but will also be recorded and posted on our platform. So you can see them whenever you want throughout the duration of the course. This means that if you cannot attend your class live at the stipulated time, you will be able to see them on the platform until the end of the course. These video-classes posted on the platform can be viewed unlimitedly during the duration of the course but cannot be copied or downloaded. They can also be viewed for 6 months once the course is over.
When can I see the classes I did not attend live?
• Access to the virtual platform where you can consult all the information or documentation of the course, access all the classes that have already been taught or the proposed exercises.
