ONLINE ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOP with Crystal Kung.

Content Summary

I’m currently a character designer at Pixar. I also work as an illustrator, comic book artist.
For this workshop I want to showcase what the actual job looks like as a character designer, how to visualize the stories and bring the characters to life.
First, I want to focus on basic principles of character design and want to give the students some practice that they can work with on their own.
Later on, I’ll talk about my own take on designing characters, maybe do some demos of my thinking process. The students can draw with me at the same time.
I feel character design is hard to be a ” traditional class” in that everyone just sits in the classroom and listens to me speaking. I feel it works better that we all work and draw together and give each other feedback!
Lastly, if we have the chance. I want to talk about how to build visual development / character design portfolios that might give you a better chance to be seen by the studios.
I would love the students to raise questions, interrupt me anytime during the class!

*Frequent questions:

What happens if I can’t see the classes live one day?

• No problem. All classes are live but will also be recorded and posted on our platform. So you can see them whenever you want throughout the duration of the course. This means that if you cannot attend your class live at the stipulated time, you will be able to see them on the platform until the end of the course. These video-classes, 1080p, posted on the platform can be viewed unlimitedly during the duration of the course but cannot be copied or downloaded. Class recorded can also be viewed for 6 months  once the course is over.

When can I see the classes I did not attend live?

• Access to the virtual platform where you can consult all the information or documentation of the course, access all the classes that have already been taught or the proposed exercises.
