ONLINE ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOP | CHARACTER DESIGN | with Esther Morales.
During this online workshop Esther Morales (character designer for several feature films and TV shows for studios such as Cartoon Saloon, Netflix Animation, Cartoon Network, Lighthouse Studios and Gigglebug) will unravel all the steps to become a character designer for the animation industry. From the early preproduction designs to the more technical aspects of the model sheets, she will illustrate each step with examples from different artists and her own work.There will be homework after each class and in-class exercises, including groupal critiques as a way to better understand the concepts and creating a professional portfolio.

Preproduction and early concept art.
Character design tools and techniques: mixing traditional and digital media.
Production artwork: model sheets and technical work (expressions, poses, turnaround, hand sheets…)

Creating a professional character design portfolio.
Recommended materials:
Laptop/PC with a drawing software (Photoshop, Procreate or similar) + Tablet.
Traditional media tools (optative materials for the early creative research of the characters).
*Frequent questions:
What happens if I can’t see the classes live one day?
• No problem. All classes are live but will also be recorded and posted on our platform. So you can see them whenever you want throughout the duration of the course. This means that if you cannot attend your class live at the stipulated time, you will be able to see them on the platform until the end of the course. These video-classes posted on the platform can be viewed unlimitedly during the duration of the course but cannot be copied or downloaded. They can also be viewed for 6 months once the course is over.
When can I see the classes I did not attend live?
• Access to the virtual platform where you can consult all the information or documentation of the course, access all the classes that have already been taught or the proposed exercises. When, where and at the rate you want.
