ONLINE ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOP with Ricardo Padierne.
During the 3 days of the workshop, we will explore my character creation process using 3D and 2D techniques. The goal is to develop a character from its initial conception to its final form, exploring at each stage the principles and graphic concepts necessary for an efficient and visually appealing design.
Workshop Content
Initial Sketch
– Introduction to the techniques I use for character conceptualization.
– Key points for analyzing shapes, silhouettes, and basic proportions.
– Techniques for maintaining creativity in the initial stage.
– Quick outline of how to translate everything into 3D.
3D Refinement
– Transition from 2D sketch to 3D model using Blender’s camera.
– Introduction to my approach to using Blender and its most important tools.
– Concepts for maintaining efficient 3D, achieving the precise level of detail required.
– Texturing in Blender.
Overpaint
– Refining the 3D model and post-processing in Photoshop.
– The brushes I use and how I apply them.
– Refining the visual coherence and aesthetics of the character.
Brushwork to create a painterly effect.
Recommended Software
To get the most out of this workshop, we will use the following tools:
Photoshop: This is the tool I use for the initial sketch and overpaint; it’s essential to be familiar with it.
Blender: The sandbox where we do most of the work, from modeling and texturing to lighting. This is where we will build the foundation of our character.
Daz3D: We will use it to prepare the basemesh from which we will build our character.
*Frequent questions:
What happens if I can’t see the classes live one day?
• No problem. All classes are live but will also be recorded and posted on our platform. So you can see them whenever you want throughout the duration of the course. This means that if you cannot attend your class live at the stipulated time, you will be able to see them on the platform until the end of the course. These video-classes, 1080p, posted on the platform can be viewed unlimitedly during the duration of the course but cannot be copied or downloaded. Class recorded can also be viewed for 6 months once the course is over.
When can I see the classes I did not attend live?
• Access to the virtual platform where you can consult all the information or documentation of the course, access all the classes that have already been taught or the proposed exercises.
