Workshop Summary \u2014 Michelle Cheng<\/b><\/p>\n

Objective<\/b><\/p>\n

Over the course of three days, we will create an illustration based on the prompt \u201cWindows & Doorways\u201d. Through lectures and demos, I will break down my ideation process, develop compositions & color schemes that work in service of the story, and share line art \/ rendering techniques. There will be additional emphasis placed on applying storyboarding concepts in visdev work, and finding personal voice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prerequisites<\/b><\/p>\n

Participants should be familiar with how to navigate digital painting tools (Procreate, Photoshop, etc.) and have experience with observational drawing. Fundamentals such as perspective, anatomy, and color theory will not be covered in depth \u2014 lessons begin at an intermediate level.<\/span><\/p>\n

    • Character posing<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Demo: solidifying an illustration idea, building a moodboard, compositional explorations. Students can develop their own ideas and draw along, or copy demos.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Day 2: Line & Color<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

      • Review student work: rough compositions<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Lecture Topics<\/span>\n

        • Line Art<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Experimenting with color (blending modes, curves, inspirations from photography)<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Establishing mood through lighting and color choices<\/span><\/li>\n
        • Running diagnostics (contrast & affinity)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • Demo: Linework, color block-ins, color variations<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          Day 3: Rendering<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

          • Review student work: compositions or line \/ color roughs<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Demo: Texture, FX, running diagnostics, finishing touches<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Review key concepts + final advice<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Further exercise + resource recommendations<\/span><\/li>\n
          • Q&A \/ additional review time<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            What happens if I can’t see the classes live one day?<\/p>\n

            \u2022 No problem. All classes are live but will also be recorded and posted on our platform. So you can see them whenever you want throughout the duration of the course. This means that if you cannot attend your class live at the stipulated time, you will be able to see them on the platform until the end of the course. These video-classes posted on the platform can be viewed unlimitedly during the duration of the course but cannot be copied or downloaded. They can also be viewed for 6 months once the course is over.<\/p>\n

            When can I see the classes I did not attend live?<\/p>\n

            \u2022 24-hour access to the virtual platform where you can consult all the information or documentation of the course, access all the classes that have already been taught or the proposed exercises.
