Hi I\u2019m a filmmaker, character designer, and artist based in Los Angeles.<\/span><\/p>\n

I make animated films, music videos, comics, children’s books, and character design works for feature films.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This workshop will cover all the visual development process in making an animated film, especially focusing on character design fundamentals, and how to create a character design portfolio.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Day 1 – Introduction<\/b><\/p>\n

Background, bio, my art journey.<\/span><\/p>\n

Process of making an indie film.<\/span><\/p>\n

Intro to Visual Development: Characters, Costumes, Props, Environment, Sets, Color script, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

Intro to Character Design: cartoon, comics, anime, 3D & 2D, stop motion<\/span><\/p>\n

Questions<\/span><\/p>\n

Break<\/span><\/p>\n

Developing a project. How to generate ideas. Story (Original or book).<\/span><\/p>\n

Warm-up Demo – generating ideas and designs, coming up from scratch<\/span><\/p>\n

Day 2 – Character Design: Visual<\/b><\/p>\n

Design Fundamentals: Shapes, colors, silhouette, anatomy, proportions, line of action.<\/span><\/p>\n

Costume Design: texture, fabric, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

Other visual design elements for your character: props, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

Demo – Polishing designs with colors<\/span><\/p>\n

Assignment\/Work review<\/span><\/p>\n

Day 3 – Character Design: Story<\/b><\/p>\n

Significance of Storytelling: Showing personality through designs, Expression Sheet, Pose sheet, Story moment drawings (interaction with others)<\/span><\/p>\n

Tips on improving character design: life drawing and sketching<\/span><\/p>\n

Demo – Story moment drawing with our characters<\/span><\/p>\n

Break<\/span><\/p>\n

Review: all character design fundamentals<\/span><\/p>\n

Bringing design to production: turnarounds, reference, animation<\/span><\/p>\n

Character design in other media: games, children\u2019s books, manga.<\/span><\/p>\n

Portfolio Review<\/span><\/p>\n

Recommended material:<\/b><\/p>\n

Laptop and tablet with Photoshop, Procreate or similar drawing apps.<\/span><\/p>\n

Traditional is welcome! As long as you have a pencil, a pen, tools for coloring, and a scanner.<\/span><\/p>\n

What happens if I can’t see the classes live one day?<\/p>\n

\u2022 No problem. All classes are live but will also be recorded and posted on our platform. So you can see them whenever you want throughout the duration of the course. This means that if you cannot attend your class live at the stipulated time, you will be able to see them on the platform until the end of the course. These video-classes, 1080p, posted on the platform can be viewed unlimitedly during the duration of the course but cannot be copied or downloaded. Class recorded can also be viewed for 6 months\u00a0 once the course is over.<\/strong><\/p>\n

When can I see the classes I did not attend live?<\/p>\n
