The portrait from life: direct and indirect methods<\/div>\n
This course will focus on the creation of a fully developed portrait from life, beginning from a strong block-in, refining a precise likeness, concluding with final tips for bringing your portrait to life. We will study texture, brushwork, and edges, as well as form and colour. Additionally, one day will be spent working on a seperate painting using an alla prima method, exploring the excitement of a broader approach and looser brushwork.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n2 oil primed linen canvases or panels (I recommend Jackson Art oil primed extra fine linen panels)
\nbetween 30x24cm \u2013 50x40cm<\/p>\n

Paints<\/strong>:
\nThis list is my (current!) portrait palette and is intended as a guide only. Similar pigments that you
\nare used to using should be absolutely fine. I usually use Winsor&Newton Artist oil paints, but any artist grade paints are good.
\nTitanium White
\nCadmium Yellow
\nYellow Ochre
\nBurnt Sienna or Transparent Oxide Red
\nCadmium Red
\nAlizarin Crimson
\nPermanent Mauve (W&N) or Manganese Violet (Michael Harding)
\nUltramarine Blue
\nCerulean Blue
\nSap Green
\nViridian
\nBrushes<\/strong>:
\nBring a mixture of rough bristle brushes and soft synthetics. I use a combination of rounds and flats,
\nsmall and large, old\/worn brushes as well as new ones. My basic selection is available through
\nRosemary&co<\/p>\n

\nWalnut Oil or Walnut Oil Gel
