GOUACHE WORKSHOP with Tiffanie Mang.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This workshop will be a combo of using both traditional and digital mediums to truly understand how to compose a picture and mix colors from the inside out. Tiffanie will be demonstrating gouache painting outdoors, and how to refine those gouache paintings digitally indoors.\u00a0 We will start at the cornerstone of the visual hierarchy by studying composition and value and work our way up to understanding how to properly mix colors traditionally and digitally. By the end of the workshop, students will learn how to capture quick notes out en plein air, but also how to take those notes and expand them into a more refined painting.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This workshop is aimed for students who are beginner and intermediate students in gouache and\/or digital painting as well as advanced students who want to learn new techniques in both mediums and deepen their understanding of composition and color.<\/p>\n

\n

Day 1 \/\/ Friday:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This class will be indoors. We will study the\u00a0 importance of composition and design, value and color and learn how they all work with each other to create a cohesive painting. Students will practice creating quick 2-5 min\u00a0 matrix studies from master paintings and film studies either traditional with a sharpie or digitally to practice the art of simplification and grouping.\u00a0 Understanding how to simplify, design and compose your values is the backbone for understanding how to correctly add color to your painting!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Day 2 \/\/ Saturday:<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Students will spend the morning painting outdoors in gouache. Tiffanie will demo how to capture important color notes with 2\u201dx2\u201d thumbnail paintings with a limited color palette of the primary colors.\u00a0 Students will focus on smaller studies to practice capturing bigger shapes and gestures over detail.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As a bonus, Tiffanie will also show how she digitally paints thumbnails en plein air on her iPad using the app Infinite Painter.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the afternoon, we will go indoors and see how we can take those gouache color notes and start refining them into a bigger digital painting.\u00a0 There will be a lecture on understanding color relationships and how to create color harmonies in your painting.\u00a0 Tiffanie will address the most common problems that students might run into when refining a painting and share techniques for how to solve those composition, value and color problems.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Day 3 \/\/ Sunday:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Students will spend the morning painting outdoors in gouache with an expanded palette. Tiffanie will demo how to paint a larger 6\u201dx6 study while applying all the concepts we learned in the last two days.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the afternoon, we will go indoors and continue to expand on the digital paintings from the day before.\u00a0 The goal is to come out with one refined digital painting.\u00a0 Tiffanie will show techniques for how to push color temperatures, values and edges to make the final painting really sing. Students will also study how fine art and digital masters utilize these visual tools in their own paintings and how they break the rules to push the storytelling in their own paintings.<\/p>\n

Laptop and tablet with Photoshop, Infinite Painter, Procreate or similar. iPad is recommended but optional.\u00a0 Paper, brushes and gouache. Gouache\u00a0 supplies list:<\/p>\n
