ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOP with Ricardo Padierne.
During the 3 days of the workshop, we will see my character creation process using 3D and 2D techniques. The objective will be to develop a character from its initial conception to its final finish, looking at each stage at the principles and graphic concepts necessary for the design to end up being efficient and visually attractive.
Workshop Content
Initial Sketch
-Introduction to the techniques I use to conceptualize characters.
-Key points of analysis of shapes, silhouettes and basic proportions.
-Techniques to keep us creative in the initial stage.
-Quick schematization of how to bring everything to 3D.
Refining in 3D
-Transition from the 2D sketch to the 3D model using the Blender camera.
-Introduction to my way of using Blender and its most important tools.
-Concepts to keep 3D efficient, looking for the exact detail we need.
-Texturing in Blender.
Overpaint
-Refining the 3D and post processing in pre-painted Photoshop.
-The brushes I use and how I apply them.
-Refining the visual coherence and aesthetics of the character.
-Stain work to create a painterly effect.
Recommended Software
To get the most out of this workshop, we will use the following tools:
Photoshop: This is the tool I use for the initial sketch and overpaint, it is essential to know it well.
Blender: The sandbox where we do most of the things, from modeling to texturing, including lighting, is where we will build the base of our character.
Daz3D: We will use it to prepare the basemesh from which we will build our character.
