DATE: 11, 12 & 13 October, 2024.

SCHEDULE: Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (Spanish time)
Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Spanish time)

DURATION: 20 hours

PLACE: La Galeria Roja. Calle Peral, 57. 41002, Seville.

DAY 1 – FRIDAY (4 hours)
– The first day will serve as a presentation, both by the author of the workshop and as a rather theoretical introduction to the topics to be discussed in the workshop. We will also review its first components, such as the script and its storyboard.
– INTRODUCTION (Short talk about the reality in the comic, animation and video game industry and brief presentation of the students)
– Introduction to the tools of Clip Studio and Photoshop.
– The comic and its components.
– Reading and understanding the script.
– The primary storyboard.

DAY 2 – SATURDAY (8 hours)
– During Saturday we will fully immerse ourselves in practice and continue working step by step on our project. We will perfect our storyboard, study the composition of the page and work carefully on the drawing in each vignette, while reviewing one by one the tools necessary for it.
– Differences between the long comic and the comic strip.
– The importance of the ellipse in narration.
– Types of shots and why.
– Using emotion in storytelling and how to achieve it.
– Advanced storyboarding and page composition.
– Using different tools to build backgrounds.
– The final drawing.
– Introduction to digital inking and its tools.

DAY 3 – SUNDAY (8 hours)
– When the last day arrives, we will have at least one well-constructed page of our comic, and we will study everything we can do to turn our sketches into spectacular vignettes. The author of the workshop will demonstrate how his process works when making comics. At the end we will review the work of all the students.

– Basic theory of color and light.
– Color palettes and color temperature.
– Flat colors and how to apply them according to their value.
– Integrating the character into an environment.
– Character modeling/rendering technique.
– Understanding the interaction between light and shapes.
– Types of shadows and their behavior.
– Applying rendering to flat color.
– Rendering retouching and complementary lighting effects.
– Review of the work.

Recommended materials. 
For the workshop you will need your computer and a tablet such as Bamboo/Intuos/Cintiq/Huion or similar. As for software, you can work in Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint or Procreate. If you want, you can also bring a small script (maximum 4 pages) that you have written to work on your project. If not, Miki will lend you one.

Who is this course for?
No advanced knowledge is required regarding the programs to be used, since in the workshop we will go through in detail how to use the different work tools.
Whether you want to start from scratch or you already have experience drawing digitally, this course
is for you.
