The objective of the workshop is to learn and be able to carry out quality and professional work.
Working from photos: a workshop that emphasizes what I do to translate a photo into a life-like studio piece. How to take good photos, manipulate them, and what I do to a paint from them.
Joshua will do animal portraits this way so we could paint landscape, animals, portraits… whatever.
MATERIAL LIST (Recommended)
Materials for painting are a very individual thing. Bring whatever you’re comfortable with. If you’re curious about what I’ll be using and want to try it here it is:
I use Gamblin paint:
Cadmium Yellow Lemon
Phthalo Green (Gamblin 1980)
Transparent Red Oxide
I paint on gessoed hardboard, birch plywood, or aluminum. To prepare the surface I simply roll or brush on an acrylic (Gesso)–I like Daler-Rowney Gesso.
Hog Hair Bristle Brushes (flats).
Synthetic Rounds & flats (various sizes)
OTHER CRITICAL STUFF:
Portable Easel (I use a Soltek Easel)
Odorless Mineral Spirits/thinner (I use Gamsol)
Plastic grocery bags for garbage.
