ONLINE WORKSHOP || Concept Art / Illustration || with Arthus Pilorget

In this workshop we will focus on how to create memorable Concept Art pieces / illustrations of imaginary worlds. What is the process to craft dynamic and immersive images of believable new universes, for productions or personal projects.

Day one:

● Intro: My background – Bio & Portfolio, and quick intro of each participant
● Lecture: Journey on how to become a Concept Artist and what is his role on a production. What are the bridges between Concept Art and multiple other artistic jobs

● Review of basics and fundamentals, analyze of memorable concept art pieces and illustrations

● Demo + Workshop: based on a common simple brief and mood board focused on environment design, let’s start sketching! Lines, shapes, design, blocking the general composition, light direction, quick black and white values

● Homework: if you want to, I invite you to keep working a bit more on your thumbnail. I’ll ask you to send me your work 2 hours before the class starts the next day, so that I can have a quick look over everyone’s work before the feedback session

Day two:

● Feedback Session: Go over sketches / thumbnails of the participants

● Lecture: Going through the different possibilities of crafting a digital concept art piece – organized or wild, depending on the project, the shot, your style, your inspiration…

● Demo + Workshop: based on your own thumbnail (or mine if you prefer), we’ll go to the next step: the first color pass – choosing the local colors, defining the mood with the hues of shadows and lights

● Homework: again, if you want to, I invite you to keep working a bit more on your image. I’ll ask you to send me your work 2 hours before the class starts the next day, so that I can have a quick look over everyone’s work before the feedback session

Day three:

● Feedback session: Look over workshop exercises of the participants

● Demo+workshop: How to push the details of your image, trying not to lose the liveliness and vibrance of the previous color passes / brush strokes

● Portfolio review: Look over portfolios with the participants

Bonus:

● 1 PSD file of a final Concept Art for you to keep

Materials:

I work on Photoshop with a Wacom Cintiq on Pc. Any similar software, laptop/tablet will work as long as you can follow and produce art for assignments so we can have feedback sessions
