ONLINE ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOP with SlenderMike
Content Summary
I’m an illustrator and concept artist interested in environment painting, fantasy and horror themes.
For this workshop I thought it would be awesome to create both one enviro oriented piece and a character oriented piece.
* I’ll be drawing with you guys, and sharing my process from start to finish as if I’d be working on an actual illustration.
* Please note that all questions are welcome!
Day 1
Introduction: My art journey, obstacles, and now!
Introduction to the correct use of reference and debunking some myths related to drawing from imagination, also I will talk about plen air painting with gouache and how fun and useful it can be for any artist.
Project Introduction: Analyzing landscapes, compositions, value structures and perspective.
Visual Development: Let’s paint a cool enviro piece! I’ll teach a few Photoshop tricks here as well.
Day 2
Feedback time! Let’s spend some time going over the student’s enviros and giving tips.
Introduction to lines: Styles of lineart, posing, how to find reference, using perspective properly, anatomy, tracing as a tool, using timers to avoid attachment, camera lens, the significance of a pose for the human brain, etc.
Visual Development: Let’s draw a character! We’ll probably do a game to choose the topic and focus on the lines and start with the render
Day 3
Introduction to rendering characters: materials, analyzing ref, posterize filter, grouping values, using gradients to your advantage, and how to think about color on characters.
You’ll have a couple of pieces now that you can push a bit further to include in your portfolios!
* I will answer any question during these sessions, so don’t be shy to ask.
* I will be looking at everyone’s work to give feedback here.
Recommended material:
A tablet (iPad, Wacom, or any other drawing tablet)
OR
A sketchbook, a good quality paper of choice, and your choice of traditional media!
*Frequent questions:
What happens if I can’t see the classes live one day?
• No problem. All classes are live but will also be recorded and posted on our platform. So you can see them whenever you want throughout the duration of the course. This means that if you cannot attend your class live at the stipulated time, you will be able to see them on the platform until the end of the course. These video-classes posted on the platform can be viewed unlimitedly during the duration of the course but cannot be copied or downloaded. They can also be viewed for 6 months once the course is over.
When can I see the classes I did not attend live?
• 24-hour access to the virtual platform where you can consult all the information or documentation of the course, access all the classes that have already been taught or the proposed exercises. When, where and at the rate you want.
