ONLINE ILLUSTRATION WORKSHOP with Nathanna Érica.
Paper Art, Choosing Beautiful Colors and Designing Stylized Characters
Bio and Content Summary:
Hello hello! I’m an illustrator and character artist who also loves playing with paper! In fact,
paper art is my one true passion and it was the catalyst of my art career.
In this workshop, I hope to be able to share with you some insights about the techniques I use
for creating my paper collages. We’re going to be making a paper cutting artwork, and during
this process I’ll be covering some topics about designing and stylizing characters. No only
that, but we will also be discussing a little bit about my process of choosing a very eye-
catching color palette.
Program:
Day 1: On our first day, I’ll make a little introduction about color theory and I’ll be talking
about my approach to choosing a color palette that makes our artworks pop. We are going to
cover some topics such as different kinds of color combinations, light, shadow and how
important they are for the composition of an eye-catching artwork. I’ll also make a
demonstration with a more simple paper artwork so we can apply the concepts we’ve learned.
Day 2: During the second day of our workshop, we’ll get started on our paper art activity. For
that, we’ll talk a little about composing a scene, and I’ll walk you through my process of
sketching some initial ideas, refining the drawing, and the steps needed to translate our
sketch into paper art.
Day 3: And finally, on our last day together, I want to chat with you in more detail about
stylizing characters and creating a compelling design, be it for illustration, paper art, or for any
other design-related job. We’ll also be doing a very fun exercise as a sort of farewell. Oh, if
you have any questions about any part of the process, related to the paper art or the
designing of characters, feel free to ask me anytime!
What Materials You Will Need:
For the paper art activities, feel free to use whatever painting materials and papers you have
with you. I prefer to use Canson Mi-Teintes because of its textures and good absorption, (but
any paper with a more sturdy grammage is perfect too!). Scissors, glue, and tracing paper are
also necessary. If you have a light box, that can be used as well!
For the sketching, you can use Photoshop or Procreate, or, if you prefer drawing traditionally,
your sketchbook is perfect too!

*Frequent questions:
What happens if I can’t see the classes live one day?
• No problem. All classes are live but will also be recorded and posted on our platform. So you can see them whenever you want throughout the duration of the course. This means that if you cannot attend your class live at the stipulated time, you will be able to see them on the platform until the end of the course. These video-classes posted on the platform can be viewed unlimitedly during the duration of the course but cannot be copied or downloaded. They can also be viewed for 6 months once the course is over.
When can I see the classes I did not attend live?
• Access to the virtual platform where you can consult all the information or documentation of the course, access all the classes that have already been taught or the proposed exercises.
