Brief summary:
I’m an animation art director, illustrator, and visual development artist. Painting sceneries is one of my favorite things to do in my line of work, so I thought it would be fun to center our three day workshop on creating a detailed environment.
Day 1
Introduction:
Background – Bio / Portfolio
Cinematography and Composition
The Visual Fundamentals:
Line, Shape, Space, Tone, Color, Movement, Rhythm
Subject/Style < Clarity of Message
Gestalt theory of thinking: an organized whole that is perceived as more than the sum of its parts.
(the eye chooses to see the whole part even if it’s not all there)

Gathering references and researching
Layout and composition, sketching in perspective
Day 2
Demo cont.
Blocking in the main shapes
Discussion of shape choices – stylized vs realistic. Using shapes that express volume
Brushes, Tool Presets
Lasso tool vs pen tool vs round brush/eraser
Layer blend modes like
Layer masking
Layer organization, clip-masking

Day 3
Demo cont.
Lighting and colors
Textures and detail, discussion of designing details. Using details to guide the eye toward the focus of the screen

Glows
Colors – using the Hue/Saturation Slider, Blend Modes
Filters – blur, grain
